Gov Sim Fubara of Rivers State has intervened in power supply inadequacies that affect the operating headquarters of some economically sensitive installations in the Garden City, and the organized private sector (OPS) has seen this as sign of concern for businesses. Also, government officials have said the governor’s vision is 24 hour power supply in the state capital to boost businesses.

Now, the leader of the OPS, the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) says the intervention of the governor shows a leader that truly wants the business and public sectors to work together.

The PHCCIMA President, Chinyere Nwoga, has thus commended Gov Fubara for the donation of the 500KVA electricity transformer to enhance power supply in Block A of the Waterlines House, Port Harcourt.

Receiving the transformer on behalf of PHCCIMA, Nwoga expressed gratitude to the governor, emphasizing the importance of electricity for businesses.

“When there is light, there is life. We thank the governor for providing this for us. Electricity is crucial for businesses and a basic infrastructure for businesses to thrive. We are happy that the governor has reduced our burden by providing this transformer, and we promise to utilize it in a manner that is sustainable,” Nwoga said.

The transformer, delivered by the Commissioner for Power in Rivers State, Solomon Abel Ekeh, is expected to boost electricity supply for various organizations housed in Block A of Waterlines House. These include PHCCIMA, the Rivers State Tax Appeal Tribunal, the Nigerian Immigration Service, and the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme, as well as the Investments and Securities Tribunal.

The initiative highlights the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure critical to business growth and service delivery.

Speaking during the presentation of a 500KVA transformer to Block A of Waterlines House, the Commissioner for Power, Solomon Abel Eke, emphasized the governor’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure needs.

Eke said: “The governor we have is a listening governor who has decided to serve humanity. When you made a request for a new transformer, he directed me to conduct due diligence, which has led to this New Year gift. His Excellency has provided not just the transformer but also all the materials needed for its installation. In no time, your electricity will be restored”.

He urged the beneficiaries, including the PHCCIMA, and other organizations housed in Block A, to safeguard the equipment against vandalism.

“A lot of vandalization is happening to our facilities because power materials are very expensive. Please protect this transformer jealously,” he added.

Highlighting the state’s vision, Eke disclosed the roadmap for 24-hour electricity in Rivers State, made possible by the government’s independent turbines for power generation.

“The roadmap under Gov Fubara is to have 24-hour electricity in the state. We have the capacity, and the governor is working tirelessly to ensure this becomes a reality,” he said.
