The Democratic Integrity Forum (DIF), has called for a thorough review of certain aspects of last Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election, expressing concerns over the handling of uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and the security of voter data.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in the election, earning a fresh mandate for a second term of four years.
In a statement on Monday in Abuja, signed by its National Coordinator, Barrister Godwin Omini, the forum urged INEC to clarify issues relating to PVC distribution and strengthen safeguards around electoral data to sustain public confidence in the country’s democratic process.
The group said developments surrounding the election highlight the need for greater transparency and accountability by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The forum also called on civil society groups, the media and other stakeholders to support efforts aimed at ensuring credible, transparent and inclusive elections, stressing that public trust remains critical to the integrity of future polls.
“INEC must also strengthen data protection protocols to prevent unauthorised access and reassure the public through transparent reforms that ensure free, fair, and credible elections. The credibility of our democracy hangs in the balance.
“We call on civil society organisations, the international community, the media, and all well-meaning Nigerians to join in insisting that INEC upholds its constitutional mandate without fear or favour.
“Anything less will further erode trust in the electoral process and jeopardise the stability of our nation,” the forum said.
