The protest by the Finima community in Rivers State at the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) plant in Bonny has turned violent.
The protest, which began in the early hours of Thursday, saw the protesting Finima community block the gates of the NLNG company, preventing entry or exit.
Violence erupted when Bonny youths mobilised to the scene to scatter the protest by the Finima community.
Indications are that one Finima youth has been killed and his body taken away.
As at the time of reporting, Finima people have mobilised to fight back.
The struggle now is about access to the gates as Bonny youths want to free the gates to show superiority.

BusinessDay gathered that the protest was about host community rights. The Finima community leadership hinted that all host community rights go to the larger Bonny leadership whereas the entire land housing the NLNG complex belongs to Finima community.
They said they were resorting to physical protest after other forms of communication to seek resolution of the issues failed.
The NLNG has briefed its workers and instructed them to work from home.
Meanwhile, journalists at the scene have scampered to safety to observe developments from a safe distance.
