Finally, NLC, UCL reconcile, pledge to protect workers

ASUU strike: NLC embarks on nat’l protest July 26, 27

Ayuba Wabba, NLC president.

After years of dissension and factional fighting, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the United Labour Congress (UCL) have decided to put their differences aside and and work together as one to protect the interest of the Nigerian Workers.
This development emerged on Thursday during a reconciliation meeting between the two groups.
NLC President Ayuba Wabba told a press conference in Abuja on Thursday ” that after several disputes the strain between the NLC and UCL has finally been resolved after several negotiations.
“The NLC and UCL will always collaborate to defend the interest of the Nigerian workers,” Wabba said.
He said that the UCL has henceforth been reintegrated into the main body of the NLC and its structures also collapsed into the NLC. The NLC President consequently announced the ULC President Joe Ajaero as the Deputy President of the NLC.
In his reaction, Ajaero said ” we are back to our house, we are back to our family and we are now stronger. Events of the next few days will show that we are back.”
The dissension and disputes between the two sides started after the NLC elections in 2011.
