FG to partner private laboratories in addressing concerns of fake COVID-19 result

The federal government on Thursday said it is working closely with the management of private laboratories to halt concerns of fake results and identifying genuine results.

This follows earlier concerns by the Secretary to the government of the federation that some Nigerians were presenting fake covid 19 results, a situation he warned is jeopardizing the federal government’s effort to halt the spread of the virus.

Sani Aliyu, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on covid 19 who gave this information at the weekly briefing of the PTF on Thursday said anyone found to have purchased fake results would be held liable by the federal government.

Sani also noted that the country is currently witnessing a spike in cases of the coronavirus because most Nigerians are not abiding by the nonpharmaceutical interventions and protocols, warning however that government would impose sanctions on violators.

“The PTF has directed the Head of Service and the Permanent Secretaries on the need to enforce the wearing of masks in government institutions. The federal government would also hold managers of commercial offices responsible for breach of covid protocols.

Aliyu also informed that in January, the government is coming up with a new system to increase testing across the country.

He noted that the travel portal is working excellently well now, while also emphasizing further the importance of repeat tests for incoming travelers to avoid the spread of the virus.
