The federal government has appointed principal officers for newly established federal tertiary institutions and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
Tunji Alausa, the minister of education, announced the appointment in a statement on Thursday signed by Boriowo Folasade, the ministry’s director of press and public relations.
The minister who inaugurated the newly appointed leaders at the ministry headquarters in Abuja said it is part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s higher education system.
Alausa said the development reflects the federal government’s commitment to expanding access to quality tertiary education, strengthening teacher education, and positioning Nigerian institutions as centres of innovation and research.
“The appointments include leadership for the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic, Abuja.
“He explained that the institutions were strategically established to address national and global challenges, including food security, climate change, renewable energy, and technological innovation,” the statement read
The minister urged the new NCCE leaders to strengthen governance across Nigerian colleges of education and promote high academic standards within the country’s teacher education system.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening institutional leadership, improving governance frameworks, and advancing policies that enhance the quality and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
