A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has remanded Danladi Umar, former chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application in an alleged abuse of office case brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Umar was arraigned on Thursday before Justice Peter Kekemeke of the FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on a four-count charge accusing him of conferring an undue advantage on himself while serving as chairman of the tribunal.

The former CCT chairman pleaded not guilty to all four counts.

Following the plea, Christopher Mshelia, counsel to the EFCC, asked the court to remand Umar in a correctional facility and fix a date for the commencement of trial.

Counsel to the defendant informed the court that a bail application had already been filed and urged Justice Kekemeke to hear the application.

However, the EFCC opposed the request, arguing that it had only just been served with the bail application and required time to study the filing and submit its response.

Ruling on the application, Justice Kekemeke ordered that Umar be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned proceedings until July 15, 2026, for the hearing and determination of the bail application.
