‘Know Your Number’ campaign, a health programme aimed at combating preventable medical conditions responsible for cases of sudden collapse and death among Police personnel has been launched in Kwara State Police Command, BusinessDay has learnt.
Nkechi Ifeoma Eze, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police and Director Force Medical Services, who flagged it off in the Kwara State Police Command, explained that the move was part of ongoing efforts to improve the welfare, health, and operational effectiveness of personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
She added that the campaign formed part of the welfare-focused vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to promote a healthier and more resilient workforce capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities to the nation.
In a statement signed by Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Police Public Relations Officer, said Nkechi Ifeoma Eze had while addressing officers and men of the Command during a series of health sensitisation lectures, highlighted the dangers posed by undetected hypertension, diabetes, prostate cancer, and other silent health conditions.
She emphasised that regular medical screening and early detection remain critical to preventing avoidable health complications and preserving lives.
According to the AIG, the “Know Your Number” Campaign is designed to encourage personnel to routinely monitor key health indicators, embrace preventive healthcare practices, and seek timely medical intervention where necessary.
She noted that maintaining good health is not only essential for personal wellbeing but also fundamental to effective policing and public service delivery.
As part of the programme, medical teams conducted free health screenings for officers and men of the Command, including blood pressure, blood sugar, and other basic medical checks.
Ojo Adekimi, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, expressed appreciation to Olatunji Disu, the Inspector General of Police, and the Force Medical Director for extending the initiative to the Command and assured of the Command’s continued support for programmes aimed at enhancing the welfare, wellbeing, and professional efficiency of police personnel.
