Enugu State Polytechnic Iwollo holds education summit

Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo has announced its maiden edition of education summit in collaboration with the office of the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial zone and Senate Minority Whip, Osita Ngwu, scheduled to take place at the school premises on Saturday, June 29.2024.

Addressing a press conference in Enugu, Nnamdi Nwankwo, rector of the institution, said that the summit with the theme ‘Transforming Education and Laying Legacy,’ is expected to attract participants all over the country that would help proffer solutions to the institution’s challenges, such as infrastructure, among other things aimed at repositioning the school for academic excellence.

Some of the dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, Senator Osita Ngwu, Education stakeholders, and captains of industry.

“This is the first of its kind; a summit which affects the entire state. We want to bring to the attention of the owners a list of needs. Since this institution belongs to the state government, the school belongs to the people of this state. So, this summit is for the people.

“We want the school to rise to the beacon of excellence in skills acquisition; so, it can produce middle class skilled workers. We want to get to the highest level of producing these set of workers.

“We want to bring to the people the importance of education as is promoted by the administration of Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, whose administration ensures accreditation of more courses in the institution. “It is not just any summit; it is a summit in line with the education policy of the state government,” the Rector said.

He also highlighted some needs of the school to include, increase in manpower, more laboratories, more classroom blocks and more funds.

The Senator Representing Enugu West Senatorial Zone, Osita Ngwu said that he was committed to giving his constituents better and qualitative education.

Ngwu, who was represented by the Special Adviser Media, Office of the Minority Whip, Luke Mgbo, said his office was collaborating with Enugu State Polytechnic Iwollo to organise Education Summit to empower the students and to assist the school in line with the state government’s Smart School Initiative.

Mgbo explained that the collaboration for the Summit was borne out of the fact that the Minority Whip in the Senate, Senator Ngwu, loves education and anything that would empower the people of Enugu West.

The school was formally Enugu State College of Agriculture and Agricultural Entrepreneurs, but was changed to Enugu State Polytechnic Iwollo in 2015, through the state Legislative Act. It has since been accredited.

The school was the brain child of the state government and has continued to grow with three campuses which has been merged but needed more structures.
