ENDSARS: Seven dead as police restore calm in Abuja districts

The Abuja (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the death of seven people, following the clashes that erupted between the ENDSARS protesters and suspected hoodlums allegedly sponsored to attack them along Kabusa-Apo axis between Monday and Tuesday.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Mariam Yusuf (ASP), who, however, assured that the Command has restored calm along Kabusa-Apo axis after the violent clash. She noted that during the unfortunate incidents in these areas, some vehicles, shops, and houses were also set ablaze.

The statement noted that while the command has commiserated with the family members of the deceased persons, the FCT Commissioner of Police Bala Ciroma has ordered a thorough investigation into the unfortunate incidents.

The Commissioner also is urged residents of the FCT to eschew violence of all forms and embrace peace even as he urged them to, in case of any emergency call the following numbers::08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883.

Meanwhile, the Department of State Services (DSS) has debunked reports making the round that the secret police were aiding the Pro-SARS protesters and thugs to attack the ENDSARS protesters in Abuja.

The DSS in a statement on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, described the story as fake news.

He also denied as untrue the stories that some of DSS officials attached to certain VIPs aided thugs in this regard.

The statement said that “In view of the false accusations, no DSS personnel has, so far, been identified to be involved in the alleged acts. It begs the question to conclude that SUVs and persons dressed in suits and sighted in conflict environments are of the DSS. The fact is that no staff of the DSS will engage in acts as the ones being peddled by these rumour mongers and hate speakers.

“The Service is a responsible professional Organization and will endeavor to remain so at all times. It, therefore, wishes to state that the allegations leveled against it are not true and can only be taken as false narratives designed to cast it in a bad image as well as inflame the protests.

“Consequently, the public is enjoined to disregard the falsehood emanating from sections of the social and mainstream media, subversive groups, and interests. The Service uses this opportunity to call on citizens to eschew bitterness, remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies and indeed, the Government for lasting peace and public safety.”
