Delta Govt, NDLEA fight drug abuse, stage campaigns in schools

Delta State Government says one of the potent strategies it has adopted to sustain and upscale peace building and security in the State is doggedly fighting drug abuse through awareness and campaigns.

The campaigns, according to the State Government, are focused on the grave dangers and negative consequences of hard drugs, narcotics and drug abuse, generally.

The Government through the Bureau of Orientation and Communications, is however partnering the State chapter of the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to mount “Drug Free Delta” Campaign in selected Secondary Schools across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

Consequently, Abubakar Wada, NDLEA State Commander and senior officers of the Command, held a strategic meeting with DSCOB team led by Latimore Oghenesivbe to put finishing touches on the planned State-wide campaign.

Latimore Oghenesivbe, director-general, Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, shortly after the meeting, said the Bureau had finalised plans to jointly mount the sensitization campaign across the State.

“Governor Oborevwori is worried by reports of the rising waves of drug abuse across the country and parts of the state, hence the need to reverse the trend to prevent youths from being caught in the negative web of drug addiction.

“Barr Abubakar Wada, the State NDLEA Commander and his team are on same page with us at the Bureau as it is a joint effort sponsored by the Delta State Government”, he said.
