…calls for safeguarding of amenities in schools
Kingsley Ashibogwu, Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, has commissioned a rehabilitated potable water project, toilet and solar power system in Aniogor Primary School, Ejeme-Aniogor in Aniocha-South Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, he called on communities, management and staff of primary schools in the state, to safeguard amenities in the schools in order to attract more development.
Ashibogwu who was in the company of Smart Ufoh, his counterpart in the Ministry of Technical Education, said the commissioned projects would not only benefit the pupils and staff of the school but would enhance the development of the community as a whole.
He revealed that the projects were testaments of the good collaboration between the state government and public-spirited individuals to bring more dividends of democracy to Deltans.
The commissioner emphasized the need for the community to unite with the school management to safeguard the facilities from being vandalized so as to attract more of such amenities to the community from the state government.
“I can tell you with confidence that these facilities meet international standards and will go a long way to serve its purpose if maintained.
“I am appealing to everyone here today to safeguard these facilities as this will spur the state government and other individuals to do more.
“I express my special appreciation to the donor, Chief Frank Egwu, and I call on other well-meaning indigenes of Aniogor to emulate him towards a greater development of the community,” Ashibogwu said.
Contributing, Smart Ufoh, the Technical Education Commissioner, said that Chief Egwu had always been helpful in the development of the community through scholarship awards and improving health facilities in the area.
He thanked the donor for remembering his homestead, noting that the kind gesture would boost the development of education in the locality.
Earlier, Frank Egwu, the donor said that apart from the projects, he had over the years contributed to the development of the community through giving cash awards to the three best students of the school, donation of textbooks and awarding of university scholarships to students from the community, among other meaningful projects.
Raymond Oyekpe, the Headteacher of the school, in his welcome address, appreciated the state government, the commissioners and other dignitaries in attendance. He maintained that the school had experienced a positive transformation since he assumed office in the school, particularly in the increased enrolment of pupils.
While calling on the state government to post more teachers to the school, the headteacher promised to put the commissioned amenities to utmost use and safeguard them from being vandalized.
The ceremony was graced by Obi Anthony Ogboli, the traditional ruler of Ejeme-Aniogor Kingdom; palace chiefs; Jonnes Ofunne, the Education Secretary of Aniocha-South and some directors and staff of the ministry, among others.
