CVR: Jandor calls for prosecution of Alaba traders’ attackers

Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, yesterday visited the state Commissioner of Police on the plight of the traders in Alaba International Market who were attacked by politically motivated thugs during their efforts to register for the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVCs).

It was reported recently that the traders who trooped out in their numbers to participate in the continuous voter registration exercise were attacked by alleged sponsored thugs because of their perceived sympathy for the PDP.

A statement signed by Gbenga Ogunleye, coordinator, Media & Communication, Jandor 2023 Campaign Organisation, said that the governorship candidate called for proactive action from the law enforcement agency to protect all residents of the state, to ensure no group of people is denied the right to exercise their civic responsibility.

The governorship candidate also called the attention of the Commissioner of Police to the rising spate of defacement and outright destruction of banners belonging to the opposition parties in the state.

He appealed to the Lagos police command to caution the ruling party to avert reprisal action as no party has a monopoly on violence.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police appreciated Jandor for the visit and assured him that the state police command would remain unbiased and apolitical.

He enjoined all political leaders in the state to control their followers as the law enforcement agency in the state would not allow any form of violence and political unrest.

Party leaders on the entourage of Jandor for the visit include the PDP LGA Chairmen, the party’s Lagos West Senatorial District and senatorial, Segun Adewale (AEROLAND), and House of Representatives candidate for Kosofe Federal Constituency, Florence Adepegba.

Others were party chieftains, Taiwo Kuye, Shamsudeen Arobieke, Seye Dairo, among others.

Meanwhile, Jandor Wednesday also had a private meeting with the European Union delegates to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on his manifesto and vision for the transformation of Lagos State.

The delegation led by Samuela ISOPI, the EU ambassador to Nigeria and the ECOWAS had in attendance, H.E. Ioannis Plotas, the Ambassador of Greece to Nigeria, H.E. Joanna Magdalena Tarnawska, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Nigeria, and Grace Earley, the Second Secretary – Political, Embassy of Ireland in Nigeria.
