Commissioners’ and Specials Advisers’ Wives Association (COSAWA), Akwa Ibom State, has reaffirmed the critical importance of mental health care, urging increased public awareness, compassion and collective support for persons receiving treatment.
The Association made the call during a visit to the Mental Health Department of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital [UUTH].
Speaking during the visit, Bright Frank Archibong, President of the Association and wife of Frank Archibong, commissioner for Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs, emphasised that mental health deserves greater attention and sustained support.
She noted that their visit aligns with COSAWA’s mandate to promote awareness, reduce stigma, and strengthen advocacy for mental health services in the State, adding that the initiative also supports the thematic priorities of the ARISE Agenda of the state government.
Speaking on behalf of the medical team, Unwana Ikpe, a Medical Psychologist, commended COSAWA for what she described as a thoughtful visit and their efforts to advance mental health awareness and patient support, even as she sensitised patients on practices that promote faster recovery and overall wellbeing.
While speaking on behalf of the patients, Violet Chidi appreciated COSAWA for the visit and the gifts presented, applauding the Association’s compassion, generosity, and commitment to the wellbeing of persons undergoing mental health treatment.
