City Boy Movement inaugurates Lagos chapter to mobilise youths, grassroots for Tinubu’s re-election

The Lagos State chapter of the City Boy Movement has been inaugurated with a pledge to mobilise youths and grassroots supporters across the state in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration, held in Lagos on Tuesday, brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, local government chairmen, youth leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking at the event, Moyosore Ogunlewe, the Lagos State coordinator of the City Boy Movement and chairman of Kosofe Local Government, said the initiative was aimed at mobilising and empowering young Nigerians to play a more active role in national development.

“Today is far more than the inauguration of another state chapter. It is about mobilising and empowering Nigerian youths to be more responsible and committed to the development of the country,” Ogunlewe said.

He noted that although young people make up a significant proportion of Nigeria’s population, many remain disengaged from civic and political activities.

According to him, the movement would go beyond electoral campaigns to promote national unity, discipline, constitutional values and youth participation in governance.

Ogunlewe added that the movement’s vision extended beyond the 2027 elections to educational advancement and creating long-term opportunities for young Nigerians.

Tosin Shoga, the national director-general of the City Boy Movement, described the inauguration as another step in strengthening youth participation in politics and national development.

“Today is more than an inauguration. It is a moment to talk to ourselves about how to build the future of the country. We came for a serious mission in Lagos State,” he said.

Shoga said the movement would serve as a platform for communicating the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration to Nigerians at the grassroots.

“The City Boy Movement has become a vehicle that carries the Renewed Hope Agenda to every corner of the country. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the grassroots and the government and ensure that the people are mobilised to support the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

He urged members of the newly inaugurated executive council to lead with integrity and discipline, saying leadership should be measured by its impact on people’s lives.

Also speaking, Sesan Olowa, chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and director-general of the movement for local governments, said council chairmen in Lagos were committed to supporting the initiative.

“We will leave no stone unturned to ensure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in Lagos State,” Olowa said.

Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, the South-West coordinator of the movement, said the region had set a target of delivering eight million votes for Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

“We in the South-West promised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nothing less than eight million votes, and you are the ambassadors of those votes,” he said.

Representing Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, the party’s State vice chairman, Moshood Maiyegun, said the movement could provide a platform for greater youth participation in politics and governance.

He called for stronger collaboration between the APC and youth groups as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.

The event also featured the screening of a documentary on the objectives and activities of the City Boy Movement, while musician 9ice entertained guests.

Founder of the movement, Oluwaseyi Tinubu, alongside political leaders and local government chairmen, attended the inauguration, which marked the expansion of the group’s political structure in Lagos ahead of the 2027 polls.
