CIoD remembers ex-president, Ijewere, for corporate governance leadership

The Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) has paid tributes to its former president, Emmanuel Ijewere, highlighting his contributions to enhancing the institute’s visibility and establishing it as a premier membership organisation.

During his tenure, the institute’s headquarters relocated to Ikoyi, its current location.

Ijewere, a distinguished Chartered Accountant and boardroom leader, passed away on December 28, 2023.

He served as the President of the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) from 1999 to 2001, leaving a lasting mark on the organization and the broader Nigerian business landscape.

Tijani M. Borodo, LLM, FIOD President & Chairman of Governing Council said the Institute will miss him greatly.

“A great man, whose passion and selfless service to the CloD Nigeria is unparalleled. His commitment to the ethos of the Institute was an inspiration to all members of CloD Nigeria. We take solace in the fact that he lived a life of dedication to professionalism and ethical business practices,” he said.

Beyond the CIoD, Ijewere held leadership positions in numerous companies, including Best Foods Group, Apel Capital & Trust Limited, and Valiss Commodities Nigeria Limited. He also served on the boards of prominent organisations like Computer Warehouse Group and Green Eagles Agribusiness Solutions.

His extensive career included prestigious roles such as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society. He continued to actively contribute to the CIoD until his passing, serving as a member of the Governing Council and Chairman of the College of Past Presidents & Elders.

Internationally, Ijewere served as the Past Chairman of the West African Sub-Region of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent societies.
