BusinessDay to host Africa’s largest gathering of business leaders, policy makers

Business leaders, policy makers, investors, and budding entrepreneurs across Africa will be convened next month in what would be the largest gathering of economic thought leaders on the continent, when BusinessDay will be organising the African Business Convention.

It will offer a unique platform for insightful debates around the prevailing challenges confronting businesses on the continent as well as emerging opportunities. Africa’s 54 countries are varied in terms of population, economic advancement and stability. However, certain challenges are harmonised across the continent, such as poverty, illiteracy, ill health, insecurity, poor nutrition and food security, access to financing, slow economic growth rate, inadequate energy supply and infrastructural deficits. These challenges affect the individuals and businesses alike. Hence making it difficult for companies to thrive locally and compete globally.

The two-day session is expected to provide government leaders across the continent with a platform to share their plans for the year, with respect to enabling businesses in their countries and encouraging business relationships within the continent. It will also enable government leaders and policy makers take feedback on impact of policies from business leaders across the continent.

Two reports will also be launched during the ABC; first is the Africa Business and Economic Outlook Report, which will highlight the drivers of profitability in African businesses, sectors that witnessed significant investments in Africa in the last decade, and countries attracting these investments. There will also be a Nigeria Productivity Report, which will give great insights into cost of doing business in Nigeria, risks of doing business in Nigeria, and what drives profitability for Nigerian businesses.

Participants cutting across government and private sectors will be some of the continent’s most influential leaders. More information will be made available in due course, on keynote speakers, and other special guests expected.
