Fighters from Boko Haram killed at least 23 soldiers in a deadly assault on a military base in Chad on Monday night.
The attack occurred near the Lake Chad region on Barka Tolorom island. This volatile area serves as a connection point for Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.
The Chadian military reported that 26 soldiers were also injured during the assault. However, troops reportedly fought back and killed a “significant number” of the attackers.
President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno condemned the incident as a “cowardly attack”. He vowed that the country would continue its fight against insurgents until the threat is eliminated.
