..As troops kill 30 terrorists in Lake Chad
At least 20 people were killed and several properties destroyed in multiple attacks across the Askira Uba local government area in Borno and the Mayo-Ladde area of Hong local government in Adamawa, an official says.
Askira Uba Executive Chairman Mada Saidu, who visited Pubagu village in Rumirgo Ward following the deadly assault by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, described the incident as unfortunate. Attackers reportedly stormed the remote village on Tuesday evening, killing 11 people, including four local vigilantes.
Insurgents target churches and homes
Two other residents sustained injuries and are receiving treatment, according to a Joint Task Force (JTF) source. The insurgents also set fire to an Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN) church, along with several homes.
Pubagu and Mayola came under simultaneous attack. The communities share a border between Borno and Adamawa states, highlighting growing security concerns across the axis.
Terrorists overpower local security
The terrorists also attacked Mayolade, a neighbouring community in Adamawa, where nine people were killed and others wounded. Saidu expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incidents and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
”In total, we have 20 deaths: 11 from Askira Uba in Borno and nine from Hong local government in Adamawa,” Saidu said. He noted that the insurgents overpowered local security operatives to gain access to the communities.
The terrorists outnumbered and overpowered the local vigilantes and hunters who were supporting the military. Saidu met with Nigerian Army personnel and local security groups to assess the situation and strengthen coordination.
The chairman called for increased vigilance, improved intelligence sharing, and stronger collaboration to prevent further attacks. He pledged to reinforce local security structures with necessary resources and escalate the matter to appropriate authorities for urgent intervention.
Military strikes dismantle ISWAP networks
In a separate operation, troops of the Joint Task Force of Operation Hadin Kai confirmed killing about 30 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists. The military also destroyed logistics networks along the Lake Chad waterways around the Kaniram Island axis in northern Borno.
Troops delivered precision air strikes on the night of 21 April 2026, acting on credible intelligence and surveillance. Air assets confirmed a concentration of over 30 terrorist boats and associated elements coordinating movement and resupply activities.
