Bauchi govt boosts livestock production with vaccination of 1.5m animals

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed says the State Government has concluded plans to vaccinate over 1.5 million animals in the 20 Local Government Areas domiciled in the State as part of measures to fight diseases affecting livestock, thereby increasing the production.

Governor Mohammed, who stated this during the inauguration of the 2025 Annual Livestock Vaccination Campaign held in Itas Gadau Local Government Area of Bauchi State, said that Bauchi is the most highest State in livestock population attributing the development to influx of Fulani cattle breeders from conflict-affected areas across the Country.

The initiative, which also included the procurement of over 10,000 doses of rabies vaccines, was in response to recent cases of animal bites involving dogs and other animals in parts of the State.

The vaccination exercise aims at promoting a healthy livestock population and encourage livestock farming as a means of boosting the State’s economy.

In line with the Federal Government’s policy, the governor therefore announced the creation of the State Ministry of Livestock Development to enhance livestock management and animals welfare.

During the inauguration, Governor Mohammed also announced plans to construct 100 dams along cattle routes to guarantee access to water and foster harmonious relationships between farmers and herders.

In his part, Kabiru Yusuf Tilde, who is the Bauchi State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, commended Governor Bala Mohammed for the initiative and urged livestock owners to take full advantage of the campaign by vaccinating their animals.
