Toyin Falola, a University lecturer, has said that the problem of bad governance, corruption, and ethnic distrust should be addressed for the Country to make progress economically and politically.
Falola, a Professor, Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities, Professor of History, and University Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas Austin, advised leaders in Nigeria to address those issues, saying without values, it would be difficult to move the Country forward.
‘’To improve the nation’s future, it is essential to understand why there are problems and how to solve them in details. Issues such as bad governance, corruption, and ethnic distrust are at the root level or base and must be addressed to deal with other ancillary problems”, he said..

Speaking at the Kola Daisi University Convocation and Inaugural Lecture with theme: ‘’Advancing Nigeria’s Future’’, stated that “without values, it would be difficult to move Nigeria forward. Without values, cannot transform the Country.
According to him, actual progress can only be achieved through a collective effort. As such, leaders and citizens must be committed to reforming the country and building a unified, prosperous, and just society for all.
While decrying democracy without democrats, government without governance, Country without compass, he pointed out that those contradictions are the challenges in the Country.
The University don said federalism and democracy would not give good governance unless the people work at it, adding that the Country should build democratic institutions.
