Representatives of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have held talks with aides of United States Congressman Riley Moore on Nigeria’s electoral integrity and worsening security challenges ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, disclosed on Thursday by US lobbying firm Von Batten-Montague-York, focused on the need to safeguard Nigerians’ right to credible and transparent elections capable of producing leaders committed to tackling insecurity across the country.

Atiku is seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to contest the 2027 poll.

In a statement posted on its X handle, the firm described the engagement as productive, noting that discussions centred on election credibility, peace and long-term political stability in Nigeria.

It also expressed concern over alleged attempts to manipulate the electoral process, warning that developments in the country were being closely monitored internationally.

“We are pleased to announce that representatives of Congressman Riley Moore and former Nigerian Vice President Atiku met to discuss the importance of protecting every Nigerian’s right to a free and fair election,” the statement read.

The lobbying firm further stressed the need for improved security and governance, saying Nigerians should be able to live and send their children to school without fear of violence or abduction.

The meeting is linked to Atiku’s reported $1.2m lobbying agreement signed in March 2026 to strengthen his international engagements and influence policy conversations in Washington ahead of the 2027 elections.
