Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) have killed two suspected bandits and rescued 62 kidnapped victims during coordinated operations in Kebbi and Zamfara states.
The operations were carried out in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes, according to a statement issued to journalists by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2, OPFY.
In Kebbi State, troops reportedly ambushed members of the Lakurawa terrorist group near the border between Augie and Binji Local Government Areas, killing two suspected fighters.
Two motorcycles allegedly used by the suspects were recovered during the encounter.

Osoba said the suspects were dressed in camouflage uniforms, while the recovered motorcycles were padded with thick blankets and fitted with equipment believed to facilitate long-distance travel.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops raided Munhaye Forest, described as a known hideout of notorious bandit leader Kachalla Altine.
During the operation, 62 kidnapped victims were rescued.
The army said the victims are currently in safe custody, with efforts ongoing to reunite them with their families.
“The operations underscore the relentless efforts of Operation Fansan Yamma and its partners to dismantle terrorist networks, restore security, and protect lives in the region,” Osoba said.
He added that the operation forms part of the military’s broader strategy to combat banditry and terrorism across the North-West and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
