The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced the collation of results from its nationwide presidential primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise is currently going on at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja where party officials, governors and collation officers from across the country have converged for the final phase of the process.
Voting was conducted on Saturday across the party’s 8,809 wards in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory under the direct primary mode adopted by the party’s leadership.
Under the system, all registered APC members were eligible to vote for their preferred presidential aspirant, a move party officials said was aimed at strengthening internal democracy and broadening grassroots participation.
The collation is being supervised by a seven-member Presidential Primary Election Committee headed by former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim.
Other members of the committee include Ken Nnamani, Grace Titi Laoye-Ponle, Yakubu Dogara, Idris Wada and Sanusi Musa, who serves as secretary.
Governors and state party chairmen are expected to present certified results from their respective states before the Anyim-led panel for final collation and announcement.
The atmosphere at the venue remained tense but orderly as party supporters and top officials awaited the official declaration of results.
President Tinubu is being challenged for the party’s ticket by Stanley Osifo.
*Yilwatda, Anyim hail direct primary system*
Meanwhile, Nentawe Yilwatda on Sunday said the massive turnout recorded during the APC presidential primary showed that the ruling party remained the dominant political force ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking with journalists at the presidential primary result collation centre in Abuja, Yilwatda said thousands of party members participated in the exercise across the country, describing the APC as “the rallying point” for politicians and Nigerians seeking political relevance.
He said the party had activated internal conflict resolution and reconciliation mechanisms to address grievances arising from the primaries, insisting that disagreements were normal in competitive democracies.

Yilwatda also dismissed viral videos alleging violence during the exercise, claiming many of the clips were old or unrelated to APC activities.
Earlier, Anyim Pius Anyim, chairman of the APC Presidential Primary Election Committee, said the direct primary model adopted by the party was designed to deepen democratic participation, promote transparency and expand inclusivity.
Anyim noted that the presidential primary was conducted across 8,809 wards nationwide, with results collated from ward to state and national levels.
