Five commanders and officers of the SouthWest Security Network (SWSN) codenamed Amotekun Corps, have held a candlelight walk for the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, as a mark of honour to him.

They were drawn from Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, and Oyo states.

Gathered at the popular Cathedral junction in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the commanders from five southwest states with their officers, walked from the spot to the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka chanting songs in praise of Akeredolu.

The corps commanders also visited Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in his office and discussed with him.

Aiyedatiwa, who spoke with the five commanders, appreciated the corps for protecting the lives and properties of citizens in the southwest.

Aiyedatiwa assured that he and other governors in the zone would continue to work together to ensure the sustenance of the corps.

He appreciated the commanders and their men for honouring the late governor whose passage he described as a monumental loss to the state and Amotekun as a whole.

Addressing journalists immediately after the walk, Adetunji Adeleye, the Ondo State commander of Amotekun, said the formation has come to stay and all states in the region were poised to continue protecting the region from criminals.

Adeleye said further; “the corps commanders of Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun and myself along with thousands of our men came to pay solidarity visit to the government and good people of Ondo State on the loss of our amiable governor who has been the front leader of the Amotekun Corps.

“We have met all the governors and all of them have shown their solidarity to the people of Ondo State. All the corps commanders travelled from their various states, that’s the essence of the 5km walk we embarked on today (Thursday).

“The good work he (Akeredolu) had done is mainly in the security system in southwest. We all knew what the security situation was before the creation of Amotekun, that’s about three years ago, and we are living testimony of the fact that security in the southwest has greatly improved. We are resolute in continuing the good work that he started. That’s our contribution to immortalising him as our great leader.

“We already have the reassurance from the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa that he will continue the good work that Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was doing in Amotekun. So, we don’t have any fear at all,” he said.
