In what could be termed a twist of fate, while the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) goes tough against underage applicants, Adedapo Idowu, a 94-year-old man has registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
This is the first time in the over 40 years of the existence of JAMB that a nonagenarian will be registering for the examination.
The nonagenarian, featured on the JAMB’s latest bulletin publication, in which the 94-year-old man quoted as saying his fears of acquiring tertiary education have now been dispelled.
“I can now attain my dream at an advanced age,” he said.
The elderly man who disclosed that his aim of fulfilling his long-standing aspiration of studying Political Science at the University of Ibadan propelled his action said the process of his UTME registration was seamless.

Idowu commended the board’s integration of National Identity Number (NIN) for easy data collection. This, according to the nonagenarian, has helped in eradicating the discrimination against the old, the underprivileged, and people with disabilities.
He said the registration staff gave him “a sense of belonging through the warm reception at the registration venue.”
The nonagenarian encouraged the JAMB to maintain this positive trajectory to continue ensuring access to education for all, particularly the elderly, the underprivileged, and those with disabilities.
This, he said, would help the board to ensure the process is maintained to achieve continuous success.
He stated that his interaction with the board has given him the confidence to go into the examination for ultimate success.
Idowu advised other candidates to uphold the importance of professionalism and contentment in their journey in life.
JAMB said it will go tough against the underage applicants registering for the 2025 UTME, though the board promised to children aged 16 sit the examination, and offer admission to brilliant ones with a score of 320.
