Adeboye calls for release of TikToker ‘Seaking’, says he’s “fulfilling prophecy”

Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God

The general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has urged authorities to release Olumide Ogunsanwo, popularly known as Seaking, the TikToker detained over allegations of cyberbullying.

Seaking was arrested in December for alleged treason, cyberstalking, and actions likely to breach public peace after posting a video in which he insulted prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Although granted bail, Seaking was rearrested last week at a magistrate court in Ogba, Lagos, for allegedly criticising Adeboye on social media. In December, the TikToker condemned Adeboye’s directive to his church members to fast for 100 days, describing it as “stupid.” The post sparked outrage on social media, with many expressing disapproval of Seaking’s remarks.

At a recent Holy Ghost Congress, Adeboye addressed the controversy. Acknowledging the TikToker’s online criticisms, the cleric revealed that he was unbothered by the insults and instead interpreted the incident as a manifestation of divine prophecy.

“I heard that there was someone who lambasted me. What was my offence? Because I asked my people to fast for 100 days. I did not ask him. I did not even ask anyone who is not a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God to fast. It was only my children. But God said that it will happen,” Adeboye said.

He further appealed for Seaking’s release, emphasising that the TikToker’s actions fulfilled God’s words. “I was told that some people got so angry and they went and arrested the fellow. Release him. He is fulfilling prophecy. For my children, glory ahead,” Adeboye added.

Adeboye’s call for leniency has drawn mixed reactions. While some applaud his forgiveness and understanding, others remain divided over the boundaries of free speech and respect for religious leaders in Nigeria.
