Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, on Monday, said his Administration and his political party – the Accord Party – would remain focused on securing victory in the August 15 Governorship election despite the Federal High Court ruling that deregistered some political parties.
Governor Adeleke, who addressed a Press Conference at the Government House in Osogbo, described the judgment as an affront to the Court of Appeal, an abuse of Court process and a threat to the integrity of the electoral process.
He said that his lawyers had already taken steps to challenge the judgment.
According to him, the Court of Appeal had stayed proceedings on the matter until October, making it surprising that the lower court proceeded to act on a matter already before a Higher Court.
“Our lawyers have taken necessary steps to right the wrong,” the governor said.
He called on residents of Osun State to remain calm, insisting that the judgment would not stand.
“The judgement cannot stay; Accord will be on the ballot; we will be on the ballot; and we will win resoundingly on August 15th” Governor Adeleke said.
He further alleged that efforts by the Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prevent his re-election had failed.
He announced that his campaign flag-off rally would hold on Tuesday and urged supporters to turn out in large numbers.
“We will not be distracted. We remain focused on winning,” Adeleke added.
