50 protesters in Police net for breakdown of law in Nasarawa

Police declare British national, Nigerian wanted over ”regime change plot’

The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force says, it has arrested 50 protesters on the first day of the End Bad governance protest for allegedly causing the breakdown of law and order and for attacking it personnel on duty.

Ramhan Nansel, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Lafia, said the arrest was specifically made in four local government areas of the state.

According to the PPRO, 25 were arrested in Lafia the state capital, 16 in Karu, six in Keffi, and three in Mararaba Udege of Nasarawa local government.

He explained that, the suspects were currently in their custody for further interrogation and investigation.

Nansel, however confirmed that, the authorities of Karu and Keffi local governments had imposed curfew in their areas as a result of the conduct of some of the protesters to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

He added that, the situation in all parts of the state is now calm at the moment and assured that their personnel would continue to be professional in handling the protest.

The police spokesman, however, warned troublemakers planning to cause unrest under any guise, that violent protest is unlawful and would not be tolerated.

He therefore, called on members of the public to go about their lawful activities without fear or intimidation.
