The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) had rewarding 2024 achieving N102.5 billion in revenue for the year, a 94 percent increase compared to the previous year’s performance.
Comptroller Dauda Ibrahim Chana, the Customs Area Controller, credited this milestone to the Command’s strategic enforcement policies, technological advancements, and robust stakeholder engagement.
“This achievement underscores our commitment to safeguarding national revenue while facilitating legitimate trade. Our strategies, combined with collaboration with local communities and international partners, have been instrumental in this success,” Chana said.

The Command’s anti-smuggling efforts resulted in massive seizures worth N235.3 million in duty-paid value (DPV). Items intercepted included foreign parboiled rice, second-hand clothing, and expired pharmaceutical products.
Additionally, the Command recorded a victory in wildlife protection, seizing 4,410 kilograms of pangolin scales during a joint operation with the Wildlife Justice Commission in Adamawa State, which also led to the arrest of a suspect.
The collaborative efforts extended to partnerships with regulatory agencies, such as the NDLEA and NAFDAC, to tackle the circulation of illicit drugs and counterfeit goods. Among the seized items handed over were tramadol tablets, Indian hemp, and expired medical products.
Chana further praised the support of Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of Customs, and expressed optimism about future achievements. “We are deeply grateful for the guidance and resources provided by the management team. Our focus remains on maintaining excellence in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security,” he added.
