Yemi Davis has emerged as the chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Lagos State chapter after the re-conducted election held last week.
Davis, who is the senior pastor of Global Impact Church, Lagos was elected pending the ratification and announcement by the National President of PFN, Wale Oke.
An insider source however, told BusinessDay SUNDAY that the national president of the PFN has to officially announce the name of the candidate that emerged as winner after the election. “We are waiting for his final words,” he said.
But, Joseph Ojo, the chairman of the state inauguration committee confirmed to BusinessDay that everything is in order and that the national president will make it public at the due time.
“Even with the national elections, is everybody happy? Elections are always like that, everything is in order; no problem. PFN is intact,” Ojo said.
Ojo, who is also the presiding Archbishop of Calvary Kingdom Church (CKC), said further that the PFN will notify him when a decision is reached on when to inaugurate the newly elected state excos.
The rescheduled election was conducted on Tuesday May 28, 2024, while the State Advisory Council (SAC) members who voted were increased to 33 from the initial 12 that voted in the first election to give room for voters.
The earlier election held in February was annulled by the president over growing concerns among members. In a letter dated March 18, 2024 and addressed to John Alagbala Osa-Oni, the national vice president (South West) of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), and titled: ‘Re: The election of the new Lagos executive.’
The PFN stated that pursuant to the letter that conveyed the outcome of the 5″ February election of the new state executive; that the national president has decided to withhold his assent to the outcome of the election after prayerful consideration.
The following reasons were given by the PFN national president for his decisions: One- The election was very hastily conducted without adequate sensitisation of members and proper Preparation.
Two: ‘Two of the four candidates that were reported to have keenly contested the election have vehemently denied being present or participated in the election.
Three: So many people within the Lagos PFN have severally complained about the way and manner the election was conducted.
Four:he fact that only eight members of the State Adversary Council (SAC) voted in the election in a state as big as Lagos leaves a sour taste in the mouth.
