For students to develop well-rounded skills needed to compete globally there is a need for schools to integrate leadership, entrepreneurial skills, and robotics into their academic curriculum.
Adeyoyin Adesina, chief executive officer of Corona Schools’ Trust Council, said this at the launch of its new three-story block for secondary school in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
Adesina said leadership and entrepreneurship training would equip students with the essential edge to remain competitive and prepare them to become future change-makers.
According to her, leveraging technological advancements such as robotics is also essential in modern-day teaching and learning because it plays a pivotal role in preparing students for future career opportunities.
She said education has assumed a new dimension as students are now eager to explore new career paths, hence the need to imbibe a method of teaching that opens their minds beyond any measurable reach; and motivates them to take ownership and craft their vision even at this tender age.
Adesina further said Corona School management has over the past 69 years of the school’s existence, ensured a consistent engagement with parents in the delivery of education to the children.
“It is not just enough for them to pay for their education and then go away. We have seen that our students are better when they have commensurate support from the home front as well,” she said.
To her, the iconic building is one of the school’s commitments to high standards of always providing a conducive and convenient environment for learning.
Raliat Adebiyi, chairman of Corona Schools’ Trust Council Governing Board said the launch of the building has catapulted the image of the school within Lekki and its environs.
He said the facility is out to cater to the education needs of the present and the future generations of students.
“The seven-star building launched has all the facilities required to churn out well-rounded students who are ready to face the challenges of the 21st century,” she said.
Adebiyi said the facility boosts interactive screens for optimal learning, fully equipped laboratories, a contemporary cafeteria, a meeting room for staff members, a lift, a ramp, and other complimentary amenities for students with special needs.
“To ensure the safety of users, the building is also equipped with CCTV, fire alarms, and access control to ensure only eligible students and staff can gain access,” Adebiyi said.
She said the school will soon commence boarding facilities to meet the demand of parents, thereby, making it the first Corona Secondary School in Lagos State.
He added that Corona School had become a household brand in the educational sector owing to its ability to distinguish itself over the years.
Bayo Balogun, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Ibeju-Lekki Federal Constituency, lauded the management of the school for this feat.
