The Niger State Police command has responded to the attacks on communities in the state that claimed lives.
Confirming the incident, Wasiu Abiodun the police public relations officer, said that the command received a report from Katako District area of Rafi LGA indicating that Godoro village was attacked by suspected armed men who fired gunshots at one Ibrahim Musa 25yrs who also died on the spot, and as a result, a group of Yansakai blocked road and killed one Bashir Mazi 28yrs.
“This attack was allegedly linked to a lingering land crisis between two tribes in the area. Furthermore, on 1/7/2026 at 10pm report received indicated that fifteen persons were reportedly burnt to death in a two-bedroom flat at Angwan-Baago via Godoro village, while one other person was also killed at another location, bringing the number of death to eighteen.
“However, investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrators of this act, and reconciliation committee headed by the local government council officials are working with the security agencies towards addressing the crisis, as joint Police and military patrols have been deployed to the area to restore peace.
Normalcy is restored in the area,” he explained.
It was gathered that people have been reportedly killed and many houses burnt in a tribal clash between the Fulani’s and Kamuku in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday described as more of a reprisal of the earlier incident that occured between the same tribal groups some weeks ago when one person was killed.
It was gathered that the unfortunate incident happened in the two villages of Mararraban Gwadaro and Tashan Bako, in Rafi Local Government Area of the state and was considered as more of a reprisal attack, and that women and children are the worst hit among the casualties recorded.
