Senator Kabiru Marafa emerged as the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Zamfara State through a consensus agreement.

He was declared the sole aspirant and official candidate by the chairman of the party’s electoral committee, Aminu Jelani, during a critical stakeholder meeting in Gusau ahead of the 2027 general election.

The NDC leadership and stakeholders harmonised their structures, agreeing to clear the path for Marafa as the sole candidate to avoid internal party friction.

Marafa formally joined the newly formed NDC just a month prior after defecting from the APC, followed by a brief stint in the ADC. Upon entry, he was positioned as the state party leader.

Marafa’s emergence follows his public fallout with the ruling APC, where he accused national leadership of sidelining Zamfara stakeholders despite his role as the state’s 2023 presidential campaign coordinator.

Following his official confirmation, Senator Marafa outlined his core vision for Zamfara State to includes fighting corruption. He identified systemic corruption as the root cause of the state’s developmental stagnation and promised absolute accountability.

He also pledged to strictly manage public funds transparently to boost the standard of living for everyday citizens.

Marafa promised to focus heavily on restoring security across the state’s local government areas and ensuring equal economic opportunities.
