…Promises to consolidate on polio-free status
The Kogi State government has said that no fewer than 77, 495 children have been immunised against polio in remote communities across seven Local Government Areas of the state.
According to the state government, the development will help to consolidate its10-year-old polio-free status.
Grace Ojofedo, State Immunisation Officer, made this known to newsmen on Monday following the successful completion of the “Big-Catch-UP” Polio Immunisation programme in the state.

Ojofedo said that the exercise was carried out in communities that were early not properly captured in last year’s immunisation programme.
“The programme was done in 7 LGAs in the state. A total of 80,608 vaccines were used and a total number of 77,495 children were immunised,” Ojofedo said.
The SIO said that the state recorded a 99 percent coverage rate but also suffered a 5 percent wastage rate in the latest program carried out from January 6-13, 2025, as she commends UNICEF for its contribution to the programme, noting further that the agency’s support is helping the state to maintain the zero polio status.
“These latest exercises helped us to consolidate on the achievement recorded in the first phase of the polio immunization last year. With this, we have taken the immunisation to every nook and cranny of the state”.
