Kaduna State is set to benefit from the Federal Government’s US$500 million Sustainable Agricultural Value Chain for Growth (AGROW) Programme, a major agricultural intervention expected to stimulate investment, improve productivity, strengthen food security and create jobs across participating states.

The programme moved from the planning stage to implementation after Vice President Kashim Shettima received the AGROW final report at the State House in Abuja, paving the way for participating states, including Kaduna, to begin execution.

Governor Uba Sani was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, who attended alongside the Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Dabo.

Speaking during the presentation, Vice President Shettima said the AGROW Programme would place farmers at the centre of Nigeria’s economic development by boosting agricultural productivity, strengthening value chains and attracting greater private sector investment into agriculture.

He explained that participating states would spearhead implementation aimed at expanding agricultural infrastructure, improving market access for farmers, enhancing food security, creating employment opportunities and reducing poverty.

The Vice President described agriculture as a critical pillar of Nigeria’s economic growth and national development, stressing that sustained investment in the sector remains essential to diversifying the economy and improving livelihoods.

The AGROW Programme is expected to support agricultural transformation through improved value chains, enabling farmers and agribusinesses to increase production, reduce post-harvest losses and access larger markets.

Kaduna, one of Nigeria’s leading agricultural states, is expected to leverage the initiative to further strengthen its agricultural sector and contribute to the country’s drive for increased food production and economic diversification.
