The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with federal authorities, has ordered the immediate diversion of traffic following the collapse of the old Moro Bridge, which caved in overnight under the weight of a heavy-duty truck.
In response, the state government has deployed engineers from the Ministry of Works to commence urgent palliative repairs on an alternative route to ease vehicular movement along the corridor.
The government also disclosed that it has received assurances from federal authorities that work is progressing steadily on the new Moro Bridge currently under construction a few metres away.
A statement signed by Olajide Moyo Abolarin, Press Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Works said: “State traffic managers have been directed to work closely with transport unions and commuters to ensure orderly movement along the alternative route, while palliative works begin immediately on the old iron bridge. “We appeal for the patience and understanding of road users as efforts are intensified to resolve the situation.”
