Dumo Lulu-Briggs, one of the strongest political powerhouses in the riverine area of Rivers State, has swept the primaries in Akuku-Toru local council area of Rivers.

By this, he seems set to pick the state in the Nigerian Democratic Congress (ADC) now led by Peter Obi.

Dumo as he popularly called, is believed to be big enough to withstand whatever the major political party can throw at him. He emerged unopposed in Akuku-Toru. The same pattern is expected to be same in most of the local council areas.

According to information confirmed by Nia’Bari Fakae, the special adviser, Media, to the Opuda, the Alabo is waiting to be crowned the NDC flag bearer in River State to march to battle against APC’s Kingsley O.K Chinda.

The primaries was conducted Friday May 29, 2026, in what was called a peaceful, orderly, and successful round of party primaries across the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State. The report said party faithful turned out in significant numbers to participate in the democratic process ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The primaries, which took place simultaneously across the state and other parts of the country, covered all elective categories including the Presidential Primaries, Governorship Primaries, Senatorial Primaries, House of Representatives Primaries, and House of Assembly Primaries.

The media aide said one of the significant highlights of the exercise in Rivers State was the unopposed emergence of Lulu-Briggs, at his polling centre in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area.

The report said this was because there was no opposing governor’s aspirant present at the venue.

He said preliminary reports and confidential field updates from several Local Government Areas also indicate that the respected philanthropist, businessman, and political leader similarly emerged unopposed in multiple centres across the state during the governorship primaries.

While official figures and comprehensive results were still being awaited, he said party officials have confirmed that the collation process was ongoing at the time of filing this report.

Returning Officers from across the LGAs were expected to submit their individual reports and documented results to the state Party leadership, which he said would subsequently transmit the consolidated reports to the national leadership of the NDC for final ratification and official declaration of winners in all categories.

Observers at various centres described the exercise as largely peaceful, transparent, and well-coordinated, with impressive voter turnout and enthusiastic participation from party delegates and stakeholders.

Speaking through close political associates after the exercise, supporters of the Alabo expressed appreciation to party faithful across Rivers State for their confidence, solidarity, and commitment to the democratic process.

The successful conduct of the primaries was being viewed by many political observers as a significant step in strengthening the internal democratic structure of the National Democratic Congress in Rivers State ahead of the general elections.

Further official updates were expected upon completion of statewide collation and ratification by the national leadership of the party.
