CASIO launches new calculator to enhance students’ learning outcome

CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE has launched an exclusive edition calculator specifically designed for Nigerian educators and students in line with its commitment to deliver the highest level of support and innovation.

The new scientific calculator named fx-9910NG PLUS 2nd Edition combines basic calculation with advanced functionalities, including differential calculation, integrations, complex numbers, matrix and vector calculations, and many others.

Speaking at the launch of the calculator in Lagos, Takashi Seimiya, managing director of CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE, said the unveiling of the learning device is a testament to the company’s commitment to equipping both educators and students with the tools needed to excel in science, mathematics, and engineering.

According to him, CASIO is committed to supporting the Nigerian educational sector, particularly through collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education of Lagos State.

“Our initiatives include material development and providing the right tools that enhance students’ learning experiences. We are bullish on Nigeria because we see immense potential in the educational growth of the country, and we are dedicated to playing a significant role in upskilling students and educators with advanced educational tools,” Seimiya said.

He said the calculators as a tool facilitate a better understanding of mathematical concepts and boost student confidence in tackling complex problems.

Also speaking, Shimada Koji, general manager of CASIO Middle East and Africa FZE, education business marketing division, said the calculator is specifically designed for the Nigerian curriculum, particularly tailored to meet the educational needs in Lagos State.

Koji said the model aligns with the Lagos State curriculum and provides students with a comprehensive tool that supports their learning in various advanced mathematical and scientific disciplines.

He said the target for the Nigerian education sector is a continuous cascade of training programmes focused on the usage of genuine CASIO calculators.

He added that the brand aims to make these high-quality educational tools accessible across the country, ensuring that every student and teacher can benefit from the advanced functionalities our calculators offer.

Commending the collaborative efforts of CASIO and the Lagos State Government, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education for Lagos State, said the state government recognises the importance of public-private partnerships in driving the vision of bridging the gap between theory and practical application.

Alli-Balogun said that collaborations like SKLD/CASIO Japan and Lagos will help to leverage technology to transform education in Lagos State.

He added that working together would create opportunities to empower students with the skills, knowledge and creativity to succeed and contribute to the nation’s growth.

“Our goal is to support the educational ecosystem in Nigeria with reliable, innovative tools that enhance learning outcomes,” Koji said.

On his part, Matsunaga Kazuyoshi, ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Japan to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, said Casio’s vision and philosophy on creative contribution aligned perfectly with the Nigerian teachers.

He said that using the calculator can contribute to industrial diversification and value chain building in science and technical education in Nigeria.
