CAN women wing seeks recognition in decision making

Nigeria drops to second in the ‘most prayerful nation’ ranking

The Women Wing Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) Southwest Zone, has urged the Church to recognise minority voices, especially that of women in decision making across the five bloc of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

“I want leaders at all levels to consider women in decision making especially in the sharing of positions either political or spiritual because what a man can do a woman can do better,” Odunola Raji-Adebesin, chairperson, WOWICAN Southwest zone, said in a statement on the 10th anniversary of WOWICAN scheduled for Wednesday 14 to Sunday 17 August at the Apostolic Church of Nigeria, LAWNA Territory, Ketu, Lagos.

Themed, ‘Repositioning Women For Growth and Development’, Raji-Adebesin disclosed that the theme of the four-in-one event was influenced by the situation of the country and the prevailing outdated perceptions about women’s roles, stressing that the dignity of women deserves due recognition and positive appraisal.

“Without mincing words, the position of women in any social organisation cannot be underrated and overestimated because, by divine work of God, women are so important because of their meaningful contributions to the success of any association, organisation, family, church and communities,” Raji-Adebesin stated.

She disclosed that the 10th anniversary will be celebrated alongside women empowerment, awards presentations and investiture of dignitaries. According to her, women are precious ornaments and magnificent creatures that are always ready to sacrifice whatever they have for the growth and development of wherever they find themselves.

On the state of the nation, she noted that Nigerians are in urgent need of government intervention to better their lives. “The state of our nation is extremely bad. I want to advise the President to stand firm and take decisive steps in alleviating the suffering of the people especially in terms of hunger, unemployment and security.”
