SOTO Gallery, an Ikoyi, Lagos-based community-centered art space, is glad to participate at ART SG 2025, the largest art fair in Asia.
SOTO is presenting a selection of works by Uchay Joel Chima and Johnson Uwadinma; two celebrated Nigerian contemporary artists at the fair, which is held from January 17-19, 2025 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
As the largest art fair in Asia, ART SG offers a platform for SOTO to engage with an international audience and contribute to the growing visibility of contemporary African art.
The presentation at the fair explores themes of identity, memory, and social justice through the distinct practices of both artists.
Uchay Joel Chima brings an unparalleled ingenuity to mixed media, transforming everyday materials into evocative masterpieces. His textured compositions probe the intersections of social memory, human vulnerability, and environmental awareness. Each piece weaves a narrative that resonates across borders, urging viewers to rethink their connections to the world and one another.
On the other hand, Johnson Uwadinma employs striking geometric forms and vibrant palettes to delve into the socio-political landscapes of Nigeria. His works draw upon themes of collective memory, human coexistence, and the enduring impact of history on contemporary urban life. Through his distinctive visual lexicon, Uwadinma offers a poetic exploration of humanity’s intricate relationship with nature and self.
Visitors can engage with these pieces at Booth FR01 from January 17-19, 2025, with the exclusive preview on January 16, 2025.
