Meet Nigerian British YouTuber ranked No 2 creator worldwide

Olajide Olayinka Williams “JJ” Olatunji, better known as KSI, a British born social media titan with roots from Nigeria has been listed as the second most influential content creator by Forbes in 2023.

According to Forbes Top Creators of 2023, KSI’s estimated earning is $24 million with a total social media following of 112 million, second only to Jimmy Donaldson popularly known as Mr Beast who earns $82 million with over 312 million social media followers.

From his humble beginnings posting videos of himself playing video games in his bedroom to becoming an international music sensation and renowned online personality, KSI, has a story that is as extraordinary as it is inspiring.

Born in London, England, on June 19, 1993, to Nigerian parents, Olatunji’s journey to fame began in 2008, when he created his YouTube channel, KSIOlajidebt.

His early content was simple: playing FIFA and other video games while providing entertaining commentary. KSI’s charisma and humour resonated with viewers, and his channel rapidly gained popularity, becoming one of the go-to sources for gaming content on YouTube.

As his online presence grew, KSI started to diversify his content, introducing comedy skits, vlogs, and pranks, further broadening his audience reach. This expansion also saw him form a part of the British YouTube group, the Sidemen, in 2013. Together with fellow members, they created a variety of entertaining content, from challenges to podcast-style videos.

However, KSI’s ambitions extended beyond the digital sphere. In 2015, he launched a music career, showcasing his rapping skills to the world. Despite facing initial scepticism, he persevered, releasing multiple singles and albums that charted in the UK and beyond. KSI’s music career truly soared with the release of his debut studio album, “Dissimulation”, in 2020, which reached number 2 on the UK Albums Chart.

In addition to his achievements in the worlds of gaming, content creation, and music, KSI has made a significant impact in the world of boxing. He first stepped into the ring in 2018 for a white-collar amateur boxing match against fellow YouTuber Joe Weller.

The success of this fight led to a highly publicised match against American YouTuber Logan Paul. Their first fight ended in a draw, but the rematch, held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast professionally on the sports streaming platform DAZN, saw KSI emerge as the victor.

His self documentary ‘KSI: In Real Life’ is a 2023 British documentary film produced by Amazon Prime Video, that focuses on his life and career him as an English YouTuber, rapper and boxer.

KSI’s journey is a testament to the power of social media and the opportunities it can provide. With his diverse talents, tenacity, and refusal to be pigeonholed into a single domain, he has successfully transitioned from a YouTube personality to a multi-faceted entertainer and entrepreneur. His story continues to inspire millions around the world, as he is ranked number 2 on the Forbes list of content creators in 2023 and as he continues to evolve and grow.
