‘Lungus Boy’ tracklist reveals Asake’s play for more stardom

Nigerian artist Asake is set to release his third studio album, ‘Lungu Boy,’ on August 9, 2024. The 13-track album boasts an impressive lineup of international collaborations featuring prominent artists like Travis Scott, Stormzy, Central CEE, and Brazilian singer-songwriter Ludmilla.

This move is expected to broaden Asake’s global appeal and introduce his music to new and diverse audiences. According to music analysts, the collaborations on ‘Lungu Boy’ will expand Asake’s appeal across diverse demographics. By featuring global superstar Travis Scott, Asake will likely gain exposure among hip-hop fans in North America and Europe.

Collaborating with prominent British rapper Stormzy can help him make inroads in the UK and Commonwealth nations. Additionally, teaming up with rising British rapper Central CEE and famous Brazilian singer Ludmilla could further boost his popularity in Europe and Latin America respectively.

These collaborations collectively offer Asake a unique opportunity to tap into new markets and solidify his presence as an international artist. Experts noted that this move could solidify his position as a global star.

With Wizkid as the sole Nigerian feature on his upcoming album, Asake has now collaborated with all of Nigeria’s top stars, including Burna Boy on ‘Sungba remix,’ Davido on ‘No Competition,’ and Olamide on ‘Amapiano.’

Asake’s decision to release ‘Lungu Boy’ on a Friday aligns perfectly with the growing “New Music Friday” trend in the music industry. This strategy involves artists dropping their latest releases on Fridays to maximise exposure and capitalise on the heightened music consumption that typically occurs over the weekend.

The album follows a run of features from Asake, who collaborated with Zlatan, Ayra Starr, Victony, Tems, and Central Cee. In 2024, Asake released ‘Only Me’ and ‘Wave’ featuring Central Cee, which is one of the tracks on the ‘Lungu Boy.’

The album comes ahead of Asake’s upcoming ‘Lungu Boy’ tour, which will include stops at the O2 Arena, which he previously headlined in 2023, and the iconic Madison Square Garden, making him only the fourth Nigerian artist to headline the venue.

Asake’s upcoming album will be his third in three years since breaking into the mainstream. His debut album ‘Mr. Money with the Vibes’ won the Album of the Year prize at the 2023 Headies Awards. His second album ‘Work of Art’ had the hit single ‘Lonely at the Top’ which set the record for longest charting song on TurnTable Top 100.
