Kendrick Lamar sweeps Grammys after five wins

US rapper Kendrick Lamar etched his name in history during the Grammy Awards on Sunday night as his single ‘Not Like Us’ swept the show winning all five categories it was nominated in.

The song, which was a diss track to Drake during the peak of their rap beef in 2024, won Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video. Kendrick Lamar now has 22 total Grammy awards in his career two behind Kanye West and Jay Z with 24 Grammys each.

Sierra Ferrell swept the Grammys, winning in all Americana categories. She was nominated for Best American Roots Performance, Best Americana Performance, Best American Roots Song, and Best Americana Album.

Beyoncé went home with three awards in total, including Best Country Album for Carter and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for ‘II Most Wanted’. Charli XCX and St. Vincent had three wins while Jon Bastiste, Sabrina Carpenter, Gustavo Dudamel, Samara Joy and CeCe Winans went home with two.

On the Nigerian scene, Tems beat strong contenders such as Davido, Asake, Wizkid, and Temi Alade in the Best African Music Performance category for her song ‘Love me JeJe’ making her the only Nigerian female artist and the first Nigerian artist with two consecutive Grammy wins. In 2024 Tems won the Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her feature in Future and Drakes ‘Wait For U’.
