IDP Trips: All about the internally displaced ones

businessday-icon
Nigeria has IDPs in a huge number. Who will carry the IDPs burden?
Some women in Nigeria have decided that they will bear the burdens of the IDPs and although what they do is a drop compared to the ocean for the IDPs, this is better than nothing.
Who is an IDP?
IDP means internally dispaced person, and is someone who is forced to flee his or her home but remains within his or her country’s borders. They are often referred to as refugees, although they do not fall within the legal definitions of a refugee.

Over the years, the growing number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nigeria is becoming alarming. IDPs are people who have fled their homes because of conflict and persecution based on religion, race, nationality, membership of a social group or political opinion but remain within their home country’s borders.

Helen Asimegebe is one woman who has decided to bear the burden of the IDPs, at least once every month she visits the IDPs to help alleviate their living conditions and make life easier, as easy as she can for them considering their living conditions.

After the most recent visit, she said:

All praises be unto God alone, for a very successful visit to the Gwoza &Bama IDP camp in Abuja today(18th May,2018)
We got to the camp at 9.15am,met all the women happy and excited as they where all seated, few minutes before our arrival.
They welcomed us with so much Joy and where grateful we came visiting again💟
We had in attendance 85 women today.
The most important toiletries/resource that her team focused on was to assist with birthing kits for pregnant women, and also provide contraceptives for the prevention of unwanted pregnancy.
Birthing kits where given with joy to over 45 pregnant women. Diapers and Vitamin C were also distributed to women with babies.
We attended to women who had interest in family planning.
Thanks to Dr Nkasi who helped in administering the pills/injections and also conducted routine blood sugar tests for both the IDPs,School teachers and everyone on our team for todays outreach.
There is still more we can do for the IDPs,because obviously they need us.
We will keep lending our voice, as we strongly trust that God will keep providing.
They deserve great thanks for all the work that they do, we join with Helen to thank Chinenye X, Georgina X, and Dr Nkachi X Oghogho, the team of women who accompanied her to distribute what they had to the IDPs.
Thanks you so much for volunteering your time and resources, God bless you richly.
