Port Harcourt has joined in adjusting their pumps to N150 per litre flat for fuel. The Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) had announced adjustment of pump price from N143.50 to N148.50 per litre for August, 2020.
Most petrol stations however did not bother to adjust to specification, not apparently ready for constant adjustments.
Motorists who went round the Garden City found that most stations have since changed to N150 per litre as soon as the new price was announced. Motorists who spoke to newsmen tongue-lashed the fuel merchants, saying if the adjustment was to reduce price (in favour of motorists), the marketers would delay for weeks before grudgingly adjusting their meters.
An official of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) in Port Harcourt refinery in Onne told BusinessDay in a telephone conversation that the marketers were not pleased with the arbitrary prices being announced by the PPMC.
The official who pleaded anonymity because he had no authorization to speak on the matter said the PPMC and the government did not care whether the prices were favourable or not.
He declined further comment, saying he was rushing back to a meeting.
