Nigeria @ 59: A new Nigeria is possible if…- Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday, assure Nigerians that the country will better if the citizens have faith in the current efforts by the government to transform the country.

Osinbajo, speaking at the interdenominational church serve as part of events marking Nigeria’s 59 Independence anniversary, described the current “ turbulence” in the country as “ mere bread” ,

Drawing strong analogies from the experience of the Children of Israel on the way to the “ promise land “ Osinbajo, said “ God has promised through the mouth of his trusted prophet that he is giving us a new Nigeria”

According to him, “ God has also promised us a new peaceful, prosperous Nigeria, a Nigeria where justice, equity and fairness shall prevail, a United Nigeria, where the different tribes and tongues are not the reason for separation, but a joyful textures of our togetherness. God is ready to fulfill his promise”

The Vice President who noted that Nigerians were already standing outside “ the new city, a promised land a new Nigeria” added that “ Like the spies sent by Moses, some are saying it is impossible, Nigeria cannot change , the ethnic and religious divisions are too deep, corruption cannot end, politicians are too selfish, too mischievous.

“Yet like Caleb and Joshua, if we, declare that these problems are merely bread for us, a new Nigeria is here”

He assured that every Nigerian will eat the fruits of the land .

“God Almighty has taken away the protection of the enemies of this nation, he has taken away their powers, the noise we hear, the turbulence that we experience, are the last gasps of the defeated foes. The days of freedom is at the door. We reach for the new Nigeria which it’s builder and maker is God. As we wait as it is declared in Psalms 46: 11, the lord of host is with us”

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, Supo Ayokunle, in his remarks, noted that “Over 90 percent of our problems are caused by us. Let us look up to God just as the people of Jericho looked up to God. Think first about others”

He however called on Nigerians to equip themselves with the fear of God.

The Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, took one of the Scripture readings, taken from the Book of Isaiah 62:1-12 and John 15:1-10

The guest speaker, Daniel Mbaya, General Secretary, of the Ekklesiyer Yan’uwa a Nigeria, EYN, called on Nigerians to learn to live together in peace.
Listing the requirements for good governance, Mbaya said, government must obey the rule of law and give directions to the youths

“ There must be respect for rule of law, without which their will be no peace, our youths must be properly guided and given the right direction

“Every policy to be put in place, must put the youth in focus.

He called on Nigerians to keep hope in the country, adding that “ with collective resolve, Nigeria will be better nation.

Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, in his remarks, said Nigerians must seek God in prayers to deal with our challenges

He appealed to the government to do more to ensure that there is no disorder in the country.

“ through our collective prayers and hard work, Nigeria shall fulfill her destiny”

He called on Nigerians not to be discouraged by what they’re currently experiencing, while expressing hope that the country will recover .

Various Church leaders took time to pray for the country, President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and government officials.
Present at the event were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and his wife, Dolapo Osinbajo, Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo Agege, Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Boss Mustapha, Service Chiefs, members of the Diplomatic community, members of the National Assembly,

The acting Head of Service, Folashade Yemi- Esan, Permanent Secretaries and other top government officials

Others include former Military head of state, Yakubu Gowan, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Supo Ayokunle, FCT CAN Chairman, Jonah Samson and the State House Chaplain, Oluseyi Malomo.
