CAP Plc engages unemployed in capacity building

In line with its corporate social responsibility thrust, Chemical and Allied Products (CAP) Plc., manufacturers of Dulux paints and the technological licensee of AkzoNobel, has empowered some unemployed youths by providing them with skills to become professional painters.

The Dulux Painters Academy initiative, a six-week intensive painting apprenticeship, which was held in Lagos recently, was specially designed by the company to empower young people as highly skilled professional painters. The training covered areas such as Paint Application, Quantification, Colour Psychology, Common Paint Problems and Solutions, Professional Ethics as well as Site Attachment with already established professional painters

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony of the academy, the Managing Director, Chemical and Allied Products (CAP) Plc, Omolara Elemide, who was represented at the occasion by the Finance Director, Adeline Ogunfidodo, described the Dulux Painters Academy as a high quality apprenticeship programme targeted at Secondary School Certificate holders and facilitated by experienced resource persons and professional painters.

“The Dulux Painters Academy is a unique opportunity for young people who desire to earn a living through painting,  to learn the craft during the six-weeks intensive apprenticeship programme and paint their way to a better life’’ she said.

Elemide revealed that CAP PLC will support the successful graduands with basic painting tools and accessories to help them start their career as trained and qualified painters.

The programme was a huge success based on the positive responses and encouraging feedbacks from the participants, as well as the passion they displayed during their industrial attachment and practical sessions.

Some of the beneficiaries of the academy, who spoke at the graduation ceremony, commended the company for the initiative which they described as a “life changing” opportunity.
