To take Nigeria’s healthcare sector to expected level, SYNLAB Nigeria has identified the need for strategic collaboration and investment.
Kenneth Okolie, chief executive officer, SYNLAB speaking at the Company’s 20th Anniversary held in Lagos said partnerships and coordinated efforts among stakeholders will lead to better health outcomes, driven by shared expertise.
“Strategic collaboration in Nigeria’s health sector is key to enhancing the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of healthcare services.”
He said SYNLAB mission is to provide world-class medical diagnostics, ensuring that healthcare delivery in Nigeria meets international standards.
“This transformation will require deliberate action, investment, and collaboration among all stakeholders. We have the resources, the expertise, and the drive to make this vision a reality.”
According to him, Nigeria has vast economic opportunities in medical tourism. With the right policies, investments, and promotion of innovation, we can become a top destination for medical tourism, similar to the UAE and the Caribbean.
He said the Company’s vision for the next decade is ambitious expansion drive, noting that bridging existing healthcare gaps and enhancing service delivery are at the core of SYNLAB’s growth strategy.
Richard Ajayi, founder of PathCare Nigeria (now SYNLAB Nigeria), recounted the company’s journey towards attaining international standards highlighted the transformation PathCare brought to diagnostic services in Nigeria.
He appreciated his wife and co-founder, Pamela Ajayi, for her pivotal role in building the company.
“Without her commitment and energy in driving this idea, it would never have been born, Ajayi recounting how she transitioned from a career in finance to leading operational challenges during the company’s early years.
Ajayi emphasized that entrepreneurial resilience was crucial in overcoming numerous setbacks, including financial constraints, staff turnover, and regulatory challenges. He attributed SYNLAB’s market dominance to its commitment to high-quality laboratory services, ethical business practices, and obtaining the ISO 15189 certification, which assures value for patients.
Weert Börner, consul general of Germany in Nigeria commended SYNLAB for its role in transforming diagnostic services across Nigeria.
He noted that he was proud that SYNLAB has its origin from Germany and told the Company to keep the flag flying.
