Nigeria to launch sex offenders’ register

As sexual offenses surge in the country, with rape being the most prevalent, Nigeria will be launching a sex offenders’ register to put a stop to incidences of sexual violence, said Amina Salihu, Senior Program Officer, MacArthur Foundation, Nigeria.
She disclosed this on Saturday, at a media lecture held in celebration of the 85th birthday of author and Noble Prize winner, Wole Soyinka, in Lagos.
“Nigeria will be launching a Sex Offenders’ Register in the coming weeks. The initiative is meant to name and shame offenders,” she said.
